A good skincare regime and a healthy lifestyle together with the right clothes, colours and style are important elements of looking good and feeling confident, whatever your age. Maintaining a well maintained appearance is accessible whether you have 30 minutes for an express manicure to add a splash of this season’s nail polish or eye brow shape and tint. Either are an ideal way to update your look this autumn.
The Retreat, in Adderbury, offers a rural setting in beautiful surroundings with contemporary interior and personal touches with fresh flowers adding fragrance to the rooms. Tamsin, the Proprietor, has very high standards and offers her clients a wide range of luxury beauty treatments from express manicures for the time poor woman to day spa packages to indulge the senses and rejuvenate the body for those looking for a more leisurely experience.
Tamsin kindly shared her thoughts with me about The Retreat and what she offers for her clients …
Tamsin, for those ladies yet to discover The Retreat, what is your aim?
It is important to give each individual a bespoke treatment as we are all different and each client has different needs so this is something I aim to do.
For women of all ages it is important to look after our skin, what advice would you gives as a beauty therapist?
It is so important to exfoliate, cleanse and moisturise your skin.
As we approach winter what are your tips for skincare?
Sometimes it may be necessary to change your moisturiser to a richer consistency as our skin tends to dry out more due to central heating, wind and other environmental elements. In the busyness of daily life don’t neglect your skin.
You offer a wide range of facials, for someone considering this treatment for the first time, what are the benefits?
There are a multitude of benefits. A facial helps to cleanse the skin, removing toxins caused by pollution, grease, dirt in our everyday environment as well as improving and restoring circulation to facial layers which increases the flow of oxygen enriched blood cells giving skin a healthy glow and plump skin. Clients really feel and see a difference.
Nothing dates and can age us as the same make-up or clothes we had several decades ago. What make-up advice would you share with women as they mature to help keep their look current?
As a trained make-up artist my advice for make-up, as we get older, would be to shy away from highly pigmented eye shadows and stay with matt eye colours. Blending is the key to a softer eye make-up. Brown eye liners and mascara are great. Keep the eyes smouldering and lips neutral. Remember foundation is a tint used to even out skin not cover.
Finally, what are your recommendations for anyone contemplating a visit to The Retreat…
My recommendation would be to relax and be prepared to be pampered and spoilt. As we always say, “a girl should be two things classy and fabulous”! You’ll receive a warm welcome and there really is something for everyone.
